Following the successful partnership between the Barry Tourist Railway and the Barry at War Heritage Group, an area has been set aside at Barry Island Railway Station to be used as a wartime heritage centre.

The local MN Branch is working with Barry at War and will ensure a local remembrance and tribute at the South Wales museum throughout the Year of the convoy 2013:

Barry at War becomes IWM WW1 Centenary Partner:

Barry at War have been successful in their application to join the Imperial War Museum`s First World War Partnership Scheme.

The scheme helps to bring together all partners with an interest in ensuring that the First World War Centenary ( commencing in Aug 2014) is suitably remembered.

Barry at War volunteers have created a WW1 ‘trench experience’ prototype in the Glamorgan Wartime Heritage Centre, and are in discussions to ensure that Barry and Glamorgan have a suitable programme of events and facilities with which to commemorate this important centenary, with a suitable legacy thereafter.

Thousands of Allied troops have begun landing on the beaches of Normandy in northern France at the start of a major offensive against the Germans.

Just after midnight on June 6, 1944, 160,000 Allied soldiers cross the English Channel to launch the largest seaborne invasion in history. They hope to break through the coastal defences of Hitler's "Fortress Europe" and establish a western front.
