Funeral took place on Tuesday February 16th at 10am in St. Mary’s Church, Maynooth, Co. Kildare, followed by burial in Laraghbryan Cemetery.
All the information we have to work from is what was released via the media: that John McMullen, 87, was a resident of Moyglare Nursing Home in Maynooth and is believed to have relatives in Coleraine, Co Derry. John’s date of birth being September 25, 1928 and that he was previously a sailor.
John had sadly passed away in Connolly Hospital in Dublin. Following his death the Nursing Home made an unsuccessful appeal to find any living relatives, however the search turned into a public campaign to give Mr.McMullen a proper funeral.
The funeral of John McMullen took place in St.Mary’s Church, Maynooth, and over 300 people attended the service to honour his life. There was also a guard of honour from the Defence Force Veterans.
Pensioner John McMullen lost touch with his family and didn’t have anyone visit him at his nursing home since 2011
