Celebrating Russo-British Victory Day:On board HMS Belfast in London. Russo-British 65th Anniversary Victory Day celebration took place on board HMS Belfast in London on Sunday 9 May 2010 with over 200 people present. The ceremony was opened by the organizer, Chairman of Finance & Investment Markets Players Club, Eugene Kasevin, who delivered the message of greetings from Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II to all participants of the celebration. His Excellency Yury Fedotov, the Ambassador of Russian Federation in the UK on behalf of Russian government, awarded seventeen British veterans of Arctic Convoys the Russian medal of 65th Anniversary of Victory. Among honourable guests was the parliamentary Under-Secretary for Security and Counter-terrorism Lord Alan West. As a third-year tradition, the event included the Minute silence, Russian and British anthems from the Royal Signals Band, HMS Belfast 4-inch guns salute and “Up Spirits!” with Pusser’s Rum. Three Russian veterans from Arkhangelsk – Yury Kopytov, Georgy Evtyukov and Nikolay Kireychev – joined their British allied friends on board HMS Belfast. Russia, UK: British WWII Veteran Heroes Receive RUSSIAN AWARDS: Russian, British Arctic Convoy veterans awarded medals on HMS Belfast May 09, 2014 Veteran heroes of the Russian Navy, the UK Royal Navy and Merchant Navy have been awarded long-awaited medals for their service in the Arctic Convoys during World War II. The ceremony took place in London on the HMS Belfast on May 9. The veterans were presented the Russian Ushakov Medal - a state decoration of the Russian Federation that was retained from the awards system of the USSR post 1991. Russian admiral Fyodor Ushakov who never lost a battle is a patron saint of the Russian Navy. -RT. LINK
