The Coaster Wooler:
You’ve all heard of invasion and D day
and hundreds of ships that took part
Well Wooler was one of the small ones
a motor job stout of good heart.
On D day she chugged along channel
with cannon already to fly
Flags streaming out from the masthead
and crews with their eyes on the sky.
Up to Normandy coast slightly altered
by him, Rodney and Anson and such
With the skipper saying up 20 revs chief
to give us the Nelson touch.
She is still plodding backwards and forwards
to France and take it from me
It’s the merchant ships and the navy
make England rulers at sea,
