Byron Jones has recently published a Book of Remembrance of Seafarers from Wales of the Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleets who lost their lives during World War II. It's not a book that individuals might buy, but many especially from Wales, might like to know it is available. The book is classed as a Book of Remembrance rather than a Roll of Honour so that all those who died in the service of their country, either as a result of enemy action, or by other causes such as a marine loss (shipwrecked), can be remembered. It lists over 3700 seafarers with details of the casualty, the ship in which they served, and the circumstances of their death. The book is divided into three sections. Section One lists all those seafarers who were killed by enemy action, are connected to Wales either by birth or marriage, and have no known grave but the sea. Section Two lists those who were killed by enemy action and are buried ashore, and those who died of other causes. Section Three lists those of other nationalities whose last place of abode was in Wales. Copies of the book are available for perusal at Anglesey Archives, Cardiff City Hall, Cardiff Central Library, National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, National Museum of Wales, Cardiff, Newport Central Library, Pembrokeshire Archives, West Glamorgan Archives, Swansea, Vale of Glamorgan Library Barry, National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, and Blackwell's Bookshop, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
