New series of stamps launched in recognition of sailors’ contribution to safety and prosperity of Great Britain. A special reception at the world famous tea clipper Cutty Sark in Greenwich, London, to mark the launch of the new Merchant Navy stamps. The event was attended by heroes of the World War Two Atlantic and Arctic Convoys and veterans and descendants of British Merchant Navy ships. A huge debt of gratitude is owed to these sailors for the contribution they have made to the safety and prosperity of Great Britain. Frederick Honisett, 85, who was among those aboard the Cutty Sark to launch the new stamps, said: 'As a boy I collected stamps. And many children and their parents will do so today. If these new stamps help more people to learn about the Merchant Navy, then this is a wonderful thing. For me, it was the greatest adventure, but so many paid the ultimate price.' LINK
