Falmouth Merchant Navy Day service:While it may have been short on fanfare, the Merchant Navy Day service in Falmouth on Sunday was certainly strong on pride. With standard bearers flanking the war memorial in Kimberly Park, members of the town’s Merchant Navy Association, former armed service personnel, dignitaries and supporters gathered to pay tribute to the bravery and sacrifice made by the sailors of merchant ships in World War I and World War II, and in subsequent conflicts up to the current day, including those that have “Crossed the Bar” since the Falmouth branch was formed.
