On Saturday 7th September 2013, St Mary's the Virgin Church, Bute Street, Cardiff is participating in the Civic Trust Open Doors programme LINK One of the points of interest in St Mary's is the Arctic Convoy memorial window. as it's the Year of the Convoy there will be a short act of remembrance at the window at 12.30pm. Just about 15 minutes: hymn, last post, silence, reveille & prayer. Veterans of the Arctic Convoys and the War at Sea are invited to attend. Also: A very famous name in the Baptismal Register — that of Tiger Bay girl Shirley Bassey! The Church of St Mary the Virgin (and St Stephen the Martyr) in Bute Street, Cardiff - was one of the locations in the 1958 film, Tiger Bay, which starred Hayley Mills, her father Sir John Mills and Horst Buchholz - and is the only Cardiff location from that film that still exists today.
