Hunt for members of the Merchant Navy wins press coverage: Our search for merchant seamen, to help us launch a new range of Merchant Navy stamps, has earned press coverage across the country. We are looking for veterans and descendants who served in the service over the past 200 years. It is ahead of the release of a series of Merchant Navy stamps in September. Newspapers across the UK have picked up on the story, ranging from the Western Daily Press and South Wales Argus to the Yorkshire Post and Portsmouth News.Heroes of the Arctic and Atlantic Andrew Hammond, our director of stamps and collectables, said: ‘We are keen to hear from relatives of those who served on ships that sailed from 1813 to the 1980s, particularly those related to the heroes who sailed the merchant vessels during the battle of the Atlantic and in the Arctic convoys. ‘As well as families, we would love to hear from surviving crew members themselves from more recent Merchant Navy ships.’ Once the stories are gathered, selected people will be invited to a reception aboard the cutty Sark, where flags commemorating a number of vessels will be hoisted. Stories, including contact details and ship names, can be emailed to merchantnavy@goldengoosepr.com or call 07900 690 574. LINK: www.myroyalmail.com/news/national/2013/08/merchant-sailors-sought
