Raymond Victor Steed – a 14-year-old Newport boy who was the youngest recorded Welsh Merchant Seaman to be killed in action WW2:The boy, who worked in the ship's galley, was buried in the British Cemetery at Ben M'Sik at Casablanca, on the road to Marrakesh. Both birth and death certificates have now been obtained and these show that Reginald Hamilton Earnshaw of Dewsbury was aged 14 years 152 days old when he died in maritime service in 1941 whereas Raymond Steed was 14 years 207 days old.
