An open invitation was extended to the annual ecumenical Sea Sunday service in Kinsale this year on May 19th 2013 at 11am in St Multose’s Church, Kinsale: It was followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the Seaman’s Memorial at Pier Road and the Blessing of Boats. Representatives of numerous maritime organizations were in attendance. The event is organised anually by the Mission to Seafarers, an inter-faith international organisation known to many as ‘The Flying Angel’ serving seafarers. The purpose of Sea Sunday is to commemorate those who have died at sea, pray for the safety of those who work at sea as well as for those who use the sea for recreation, and support in prayer all the organizations who respond to marine emergencies. There is generally a collection for the RNLI and the Mission to Seafarers. Organisers include retired Slua Muiri Lt Cdr Noel O’Toole and Canon David Williams.
