Battle of the Atlantic 70th anniversary commemorations in Liverpool:
CROWDS packed the Liverpool waterfront as bright sunshine bathed the first day of the city’s Battle of the Atlantic commemoration weekend.
Around 120,000 people – from babies in prams to pensioners with walking sticks and veterans and their families – flocked to the Albert Dock and Pier Head.
Others paid a visit to Cammell Laird, sponsors of the weekend event, where the shipyard-built HMS Edinburgh is berthed.
The weekend is the 70th – and final – anniversary commemoration of the longest conflict of World War II.
