National War memorial proposal: The proposed memorial would stand in Drop Redoubt, a disused Napoleonic Fort on Dover’s Western Heights: The plans to create a national war memorial on Dover's Western Heights are currently awaiting the outcome of a Planning Committee meeting on 30th May, this will either give a clear way forward or identify hurdles. The best help at the moment is to promote the project to all the people you know and make you MP aware of the project, in addition we need high profile endorsement, so if you have any high profile contacts please try for their support. The memorial would list all those from the British Commonwealth who died in the two world wars. It would include a series of free-standing stone walls listing all those from the UK and Commonwealth countries who died in the First and Second world wars - an incredible 1.7 million names, making it unique in this country and probably the world. If successful, the plan is to open the memorial by 2014, the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War. It is hoped to gain local and national support for the scheme this year, begin work this year and open the memorial in 2014, the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.
